This is my third year as Principal at Fort Langley Elementary. It is evident that our community is special and all community members encourage students to grow academically and develop into socially responsible, caring and compassionate individuals who will become life long learners.
Fort Langley Elementary is a neighborhood school of 330 students and is located in the heart of historic Fort Langley, near the Kwantlen First Nation territory. Its rich traditions and diverse student population result in a learning community that embraces individuality and uniqueness.
Fort Langley is a ‘Learning Community’ which encourages staff, students, and parents to involve themselves fully in all aspects of school life. At any given time one can see parents working in a collaborative manner with teachers and students. It is this collaborative approach to learning between all members in the learning community that results in well educated and respectful citizens. With this in mind, the school aligns its core values with the school district: integrity, excellence, courage and community.
Starting in September 2017, Fort Langley Elementary added two Outdoor Education classes as part of its programming. Students in Kindergarten, Grade One and Grade Two from around the district had an opportunity to sign up for this unique learning experience. This year we are proud to have four classes of Outdoor Education from Kindergarten to grade 4. Students are given the opportunity to learn in all areas of the curriculum three days a week at a chosen outdoor facility within the Township of Langley and Metro Vancouver parks.
Our regular classes are provided with rich learning opportunities from all areas of the curriculum and teachers focus on the diverse needs of each child. Students at Fort Langley Elementary engage is a unique learning opportunity given the area where we reside and the support from staff, parents and the community as a whole.
This past school year Fort Langley Elementary built an outdoor classroom and updated our community garden. Both provide unique learning experiences for our students.
It is a sincere pleasure to be the Principal at Fort Langley Elementary. I look forward to a wonderful year ahead that will be filled with joy, lots of learning and fun.
Ms. C.A. Harvie, Principal
